Professor Dr. Walter Jamieson is an internationally recognized scholar and practitioner in urban planning and urban management, with a career spanning more than five decades across North America and Asia. He holds a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Studies from the University of Birmingham, UK, alongside advanced degrees in environmental conservation and planning, and is a Fellow of both the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Institute of Place Management.
Throughout his academic career, Dr. Jamieson has held senior leadership and faculty roles at major universities including the University of Calgary, the Asian Institute of Technology, Thammasat University, the University of Hawaii and Toronto Metropolitan University. His research and teaching have focused on international urban revitalization, poverty reduction, sustainable urban management, heritage conservation, and strategic urban governance. He has contributed to advancing theoretical frameworks and practical models for integrating heritage and sustainability into urban planning processes.
In parallel with his academic work, Dr. Jamieson has advised international organizations, national governments, and local authorities on urban planning policies, urban management systems, and community-based urban renewal initiatives. His consultancy work has informed key urban masterplans and strategic development policies in Canada, Southeast Asia, and China.
